Hey

I didn't want to jinx myself because he has done this before ... but he is now doing it regularly! Posted Image

Perk is eating his Harrison Pepper LifeTime Coarse ... He is eating between 10 and 15 pellets daily. He also eats fresh foods for breakfast and supper.

For those who feed the coarse ... how many do your greys eat in a day?

Thanks

Dee

That's about how much Einstein would eat in 24 hours (of pellets I mean).

Thanks Amy .. that's great!

I am so excited that he is eating pellets! After 4.5 years he is finally eating them ... Although when I first got him he was on a seed diet with peanuts and sunflower seeds and wasn't eating any fresh foods..

Today he eats no peanuts, no sunflower seeds, a good seed mix, nuts, various fresh foods ... and now pellets! Yoo hoooooo ... Posted Image

I don't keep track of how many pellets my Greys go through, but 10 to 15 per day is fabulous! :D

Yeah .. I don't keep track of the number of pellets Sméagol eats either because he was weaned to pellets and has been eating them since he was a weee birdie .. Posted Image

Perk on the otherhand ... I count the number of pellets I put in his dish everyday for four + years .... The odd time he would eat one or two .. then I would be disappointed when I would find them in the bottom tray .. For the last four days he has been eating between 10 and 15... and not finding any in his tray ...

I am so stoked .. Posted Image

Like a lunatic I was running around .. Ian, Ian he ate 13 pellets ... yooo hooo! Posted Image

How many does Earl eat or how many does he toss on the floor or thru the bars of the cage to the doggies???Posted Image Or simply crumble up in his beak and spit out??? Your story is encouraging Dee... I will persevere in feeding pellets and other nutritious foods...

I give Echo and Chiku about a tablespoon each, so that's about 12 pellets a day..

I get home and they've all been chewed to some extent :) so it sounds like Perks enjoying them. I started off with the pepper ones too, then I started to mix them up with high potency ones, and now were on a 60/40 mix in favour of high potency and both get munched on.. so maybe in a few months try that route..

Congratulations :D

I may not have the key to success, but I know how to pick the lock on the door.

Birdlette you might try feeding the "fine" grind of pellet - einstein wastes a lot less with those. I am finding it easier because now they can all be on the same size.

I have tried and tried with no sucess to get either Ruby or Lola to eat pellets. I sneak some in birdy bread but even then they manage to work around them. This post gives me hope to keep trying. Way to go Perk!

This is so encouraging! It just shows that perseverance does pay off... boy do they have minds of their own!

I wonder if by continually sneaking him pellets he has finally acquired a taste for them?

Excellent point Becky .... that does make sense ... I have been grinding pellets since he came to us in 2005 and feeding Harrison's' birdie bread as well ...

Maybe he just gave in....

I put 15 Harrison Coarse pepper pellets in his bowl last night with some totally organic pellets. Today at lunch when I came home all his harrison pellets were gone. I added 10 more... and just now when I came home he only had 2 left ..
So since last night he has eaten .. 23 harrison coarse pepper pellets ...

I am so excited ... It is just crazy how excited I am ... Ian says it gets pretty bad when you are excited to get home to check your parrot's food bowl ..Posted Image

I have to buy mine at the vet's too, this was their original distribution method. I think the pet supply stores would carry them, but they are perishable and they don't want to get stuck with outdated food on their shelves. (Our vet keeps them in a freezer for her clients. :P)
