Willow. She had two left for about 2 months. Today she broke both of them off. I'm not sure if it's just first moult blues or that she's just a baby and gets a little overzealous, but for whatever reason, she has no tail feathers left for her upcoming hatch day next month.
I can't help but wonder if it's something I did!? Annual vet visit is next wed. I'm going to have her checked for everything including herpes and bi-polar issues...

Those were the first feathers to go when Merlin started his molt. He walked around with 3 tail feathers for about a week, then all the baby feathers showed up. I thought it looked pretty funny myself, especially when he did the bum wiggle after a good stretch

Miu has the tattiest looking tail with just a couple of feathers left that are in REALLY BAD condition. He's broken off most of his due to his over-zealous playing and the fact that the feathers themselves are very brittle anyways. There are obvious stress bands showing that he was not well nourished when he was still a chick. (Lousy pet stores! ) His first owner bought him (unbanded too) from a pet shop out in the Fraser Valley - she wouldn't give me the name of the place - but I have my suspicions. . .
Anyway, sorry about harping on about Miu. . . . . . back to Willow.
She'll be okay, especially with you for her daddy. I'm sure the vet will find nothing out of the ordinary, but it's always a good thing to make doubly sure.

When our male caique, Pablo, was a young chap he routinely went around without any tail feathers... having lost them in various wrestling matches with toys, ill-fated flying attempts, and other shenanigans. As long as there is no other usual feather lose, I would say it is nothing to worry about.

My cockatiel suffered from "teenage tail bashing syndrome" until he learned a little grace! He always had ragged and broken tail feathers until he matured...

Poor Willow, sounds like she is a typical clumsy young grey. Ruby was extremely clumsy her first year. Hoping all goes well with your vet visit next weekend. Your plate is full enough these days.

That's not really a fair remark to make, Lambert! There are many others that have the authority to delete posts and we have guidelines to uphold, regardless of who makes the posts. Please don't paint everyone with the same brush.

Cosmo's tail feathers look a bit tatty too......he has broken quite a few of them off when he takes a tumble.
